Mary Mushett

Mary Hirbe Mushett, age 88 of Norwalk, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 20, 2019 in Kalamazoo, MI, surrounded by her family.

She was born on January 17, 1931 in Toledo Ohio, to the late Della and Fred Hirbe, but lived most of her life in Norwalk. She attended St. Paul Grade School, and was a 1949 graduate of St. Paul High School. In October 1951, she married James Mushett. Mary was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Beginning in 1966, Jim’s career took the couple and their children to Connecticut, Illinois, and Indiana. Mary viewed each move as an adventure, and made them fun for the entire family. Jim and Mary returned to Norwalk in 1979, where they enjoyed their life together in the country. What Mary loved most was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was also a member of St. Paul Catholic Church.

She is survived by her loving children, James W. (Mary A.) Mushett Jr. of Sneeds Ferry, NC, Susan Kane of Chicago, IL, Catherine (Frank) Moroni of River Forest, IL, Cynthia (Michael) Spalding of South Bend, IN, Thomas Hirbe Mushett of Kalamazoo, MI, and Anne (Benjamin) Parker of Norwalk; 17 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and her brother, Donald Hirbe of Redding, CA.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, James W. Mushett in 2010; her sister-in-law, Joyce Hirbe in 2019; her “hero” and grandson, Joseph Moroni in 2019; and her son-in-law, Edward Kane in 2016.

Friends may call on Friday, October 25, 2019 from 4 – 7 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E. Main Street, Norwalk. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Devices 4 The Disabled in Chicago, IL or St. Paul Catholic Church, Norwalk.
