Elizabeth "Betty" Schaffer

Elizabeth (Betty) Schaffer age 92, went to be with her Lord on Monday, November 19, 2018 at Gaymont Nursing Home.

Betty was born in Norwalk on October 15, 1926 to the late Gilbert and Helen (Cooper) Frey.

Betty married Alexander Schaffer on June 25, 1949 and celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary this year. Together they raised seven children. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, and the occasional Casino trip. But nothing was more important to her than her family, whom she loved spending time with.

Betty is survived by her husband Alex; children, Monica Schaffer of Norwalk, Mary (Roddy) Holland of Monroeville, Raymond Schaffer of Toledo, Alexis (Darrell) Moll of Monroeville, Brian Schaffer of Toledo, and Stephen Schaffer of Norwalk; 20 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. She was extremely proud of them all.

Betty was preceded in death by her son, James Schaffer, in 2006, and her grandson, Shannon, in 2014. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Louis Frey, James Frey, and Charles Frey; and sisters, Martha Frey, Sister Mary Gilbert Frey, Martha Frey, Veronica Kluding, and Kathleen Leibold.

Friends may call on Friday, November 23, 2018 from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10:30 A.M. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Settlement Road, Norwalk with Rev. Ron Schock officiating. Burial will follow at St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
