Gary W. Melick

Gary W Melick, born April 18, 1943, in West Bedford, Ohio, passed away on July 8, 2026, at the age of 83.

After losing both of his parents at a young age, he was lovingly raised by his older brother, Ron along with his brothers Jim and Owen.

Following high school graduation from Utica High school class of 1961, Gary joined the United States Army and served his country in 1964, being deployed to Vietnam. Gary later married the love of his life, Marguerite, and together they shared more than 50 years of marriage. He was a devoted husband and caregiver, faithfully caring for Marguerite for many years and always making the best of each day. The last four years without her were very difficult for him, as he missed her deeply.

Gary worked hard throughout his life and retired from Routh Packing Company after 35 years of dedicated service. In his younger years, he enjoyed going to Valley Beach. He also loved listening to music, bird watching, spending time with friends, and being part of the American Legion and the Eagles Club. Gary was also an avid “Cleveland” sports fan following the Indians/Guardians, Cavaliers, Browns and watching them on the TV at every opportunity. Burger King in Norwalk held a special place in his heart, as it was a favorite place for Gary and Marguerite to meet with friends. The staff there treated them with great kindness and always made them feel special.

During his final months, Gary lived at The Commons of Providence (Assisted Living in Sandusky Ohio), where he thoroughly enjoyed playing bingo, cards, chair kickball, and going on day trips. His family is deeply grateful for the exceptional care and kindness shown by the staff. He could not have asked for a better place to spend the end of his life.

Gary's final thoughts brought comfort, as he believed he would be with the Lord and reunited with his beloved wife, Marguerite, in heaven.

Gary is survived by his stepchildren, Rich Reed, Angie (Skip) Dalton, Mark (Pam) Reed, Robin Reed, and Bryon (Laura) Reed; his brother, Ron Melick; his sister, Marlene Hurd; his brothers, Jim (Linda) Melick and Owen (Zella) Melick; 15 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his parents James Kenneth Melick and Fern Elizabeth Melick.

Gary will be remembered for his service to his country, his strong work ethic, his love for family and friends, and the devotion he showed to his beloved wife, Marguerite.

A gathering of family and friends will be held with military honors Friday, July 31, 2026, from 4:00 --- 6:00 PM at the Evans Funeral Home, 314E. Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio.
