Leonard "Vern" V. Cox

Leonard “Vern” Vernon Cox, age 71, of Norwalk, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 18, 2026, at his home with his wife by his side, due to a lengthy illness.

He was born August 8, 1954, in Sandusky to the late Leonard and Virginia (Manis) Cox. He was a graduate of Norwalk High School and attended EHOVE Career Center. He married his high school sweetheart, Jane of 56 years in 1974. They had two sons, Jeremy Vernon Cox and Seth Michael Cox, both of Norwalk. They have five grandchildren, Layla (Michael) Pylant of Norwalk, Sydnee Roth of Fitchville, Owen Cox of Vermilion, Kacy Cox of Vermilion, Gonah Cox of Vermilion; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a machinist by trade. In 1978 he moved to Louisiana and worked in the oil fields for eight years until he fell ill and moved back to Ohio, where he worked for Newcomer Concrete for nearly 30 years until his health wouldn’t let him work anymore. He always loved spending time with his family and grandkids. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working on cars.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Janet Richards.

He is survived by his wife, Jane (Shere) Cox of 51 years; siblings, Geanie Bollenbacher of Oak Harbor, Nancy Matthews of Port Clinton, Jim Cox of TN, Kay Cox of Oak Harbor, Albert Cox of Fremont, Roger Cox of Berlin Heights and Julie Matthews of TN.

A celebration of Leonard’s life will be held Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 12:00 noon until 5:00 P.M. at the Norwalk Reservoir, Shelter #4.

Local arrangements entrusted to the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk.
