Elaine (Mainzer) Mahl

Elaine (Mainzer) Mahl, age 88, of Norwalk, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 18, 2025, at the Commons of Providence in Sandusky.
Elaine was born November 4, 1937, in Crestline, Ohio to Gilbert & Elizabeth Mainzer. Elaine is a descendant of the well-known Boeckling bloodline as she is a great-niece of the Cedar Point founder, G.A Boeckling.
Elaine was a 1954 graduate of St. Paul’s when she went on to work for 32 years for the State of Ohio employment services. She also spent over 40 years working as a farmer’s wife, which meant running an adaptable household based on the seasons of planting, growing, or harvest.
Elaine served as Townsend Township Firebell for 20 plus years. She also donated considerable time to fundraising for the American Cancer Society.
Elaine is survived by her sons David (Marian Lane) Mahl of Saint Leonard, MD, Kevin (Michelle Burke) Mahl of Davidson, NC, sisters Jane Silcox, Margaret Nestor, sisters-in-law, Janet Hostetler, Jane Mahl, and Margaret Mainzer. Grandchildren Alexander Mahl, Kaitlyn Mahl, Madelyn (Aldo) De Leon, Erika (Mathew) Rouse, and Lucille Mahl, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Richard “Dick” Mahl in 2024; her parents, Gilbert & Elizabeth Mainzer; brother, Gilbert Mainzer; sister, Kathleen Mainzer.
Visitation for family and friends will be held December 30, 2025, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. A funeral Mass will be held December 31st, at 10:30AM at St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 East Main Street, Norwalk with Father Valerian Larawa, followed by a luncheon.
Private interment will be held at a later date at St. Paul Cemetery.
