Lois Scofield

Lois Scofield, age 101, of Wooster and formerly Norwalk, OH passed away Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Wayne County Care Center in Wooster.

She was born June 25, 1924, in Uhrichsville, Ohio to John A and Olive G (Rippeth) Thorley.  Lois was a laborer most of her life and worked at 15 different jobs.  In the 1930's and 40's, she made Goodyear Blimps, torpedoes and bombshells, yarn, and balloons. In the 1950's and 60's it was rubber bands, thermostats, basketballs, pilot lights and modular homes. In the 1970's and 80's she was a spot welder and grinder making buses, then jump ropes and finally ended up in a small machine shop.  She was very strong and did work most men couldn't do.  Lois never knew a stranger. She enjoyed telling stories of days gone by and although she sometimes had a hard life, she had no regrets. She loved her family and friends deeply and always enjoyed chatting on the phone.

She is survived by her granddaughter, Sherri (Rick) Muhlenkamp of Wooster; and grandson John (Erinn) Starcher, Jr. of Palm Beach, Florida: great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Rachael Muhlenkamp and Reagan Starcher; and longtime caregivers, Dawn and Bob Stetzel.

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard (Dick) Scofield, sons David E. Starcher and John M. Starcher, and baby daughters, Lois Jean and baby girl Starcher.

At Lois’ request cremation will take place and private interment will be held at a later date.

Arrangements entrusted to the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk.
