Veronica "Carol" Trautman

Veronica  “Carol”  (King) Trautman, age 83, of Norwalk, passed away peacefully on August 5th, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on March 27, 1942, to the late Charles T. King, Sr. and Margaret (Tipping) King in Mount Savage, MD. She was the matriarch of five generations of the King family. The family moved to Ohio in 1955, and soon thereafter, at age 15 at a snowball fight, she met the love of her life, Dale Trautman. They were high school sweethearts and were married for 48 years until Dale’s passing in 2010.

Carol was a homemaker until her children graduated high school, and then she worked at Walmart for many years until her retirement. She loved keeping her yard looking beautiful and feeding the neighborhood cats like they were her own. She was active in quite a few sports in her younger years. She loved playing golf, tennis, and volleyball. She had quite a few trophies to show for her great golf game. She was a high school volleyball official for many years and coached her daughter’s softball teams. She played in the band at Norwalk High School, which sparked her love for music and the french horn.

She and Dale enjoyed traveling, especially to Fort Myers Beach, FL for many family vacations. They also sailed on many cruises to the Caribbean and Alaska. Her favorite trip was a cruise to the Caribbean with the whole family to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. Carol was also a great cook and baker, and took pride in making Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, and special meals throughout the year for her family and friends. She also made wedding cakes for many area couples for several years. But, most important to her was spending time with her family and friends, and especially family game nights. She cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and rarely missed anything they were involved in, and was their greatest supporter.

She is survived by her daughter, Lori Trautman of Norwalk, son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Valerie Trautman of Vermilion, sisters Fran (the late Denny) Cole of Milan, Cathy (Keith) Takahara of Norwalk and Hawaii, Patty (David) Zika of Norwalk, Peggy (the late Burnie) Brummitt of Norwalk, and sister-in-law Gretchen Landoll of Norwalk. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Cory Trautman of Norwalk, Courtney (Cyndi) Woods of North Canton, Kelsey (Michaela) Muller of Uniontown, Kelly (Cody) Doan of Wilmington, NC, Jacob (Anna Smith) Trautman of Batavia, OH, Logan Trautman of Vermilion, Ashley Lukachko of Toledo, and Dakota Moser of Vermilion, great-grandchildren Eleanor Doan, Oliver, Mila, and Theodore Patton, and one on the way. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, George King, John “Jackie” King, and Charles T. “Tommy” King, Jr., and her brothers-in-law Clifford T. Trautman Jr, Burnie Brummitt, and Denny Cole, and sisters-in-law Penny King and Sherry King.

Visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, August 11, 2025, from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk.  A funeral Mass will be held 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E. Main Street, Norwalk, OH.  Interment will be held at St. Paul Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Carol’s honor can be made to Norwalk High School Music Boosters, 350 Shady Lane, Norwalk, OH 44857.

Carol was surely the Queen of the King family of Norwalk, Ohio. Carol certainly lived a life full of excitement and adventure living every day for her family and friends. Uncle Charles and Aunt Tip were waiting to greet her at the Golden gates to enter Heaven. God bless her memory.
