Gerald E. Eaton

Gerald E Eaton, age 90, of Norwalk, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2025, at Fisher-Titus Medical Center.
He was born June 1, 1934, in Castalia to the late Lowell E. and Ruby E. (Boss) Eaton. He grew up in Norwalk while attending the Main Street school, graduating in 1952. He enlisted and served in the US Navy where he received training in aviation electronics, then spent his time servicing electronic equipment on Navy planes in Patuxet River MD. Naval Air Station on the USS Coral Sea carrier. Upon completing his active-duty time in the Navy he enrolled in Tri-State College in Angola, IN studying electrical engineering and graduated in 1960. The same time he graduated from college he married his fiancé, Bertine Potter of Wakeman. He began working at Clevite in Milan and worked in various engineering and management positions over the next 29 years and retired as Director of Engineering.
While residing in Wakeman both he and his wife became avid golfers, enjoyed sail boating, and camping in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter. Upon his wife’s retirement in 1991, they moved to condo living in Norwalk. This allowed for them to spend the winter months in South Carolina, where they enjoyed golfing with their friends from many states and Canada. During retirement they also enjoyed traveling, going on many trips throughout the United States, Europe, Alaska, Hawaii, and Nova Scotia.
He is survived by his loving wife, Bertine (Potter) Eaton; nephews, Steve (Diane) France and Scott (Kathy) France; and niece, Susan (Mark) Finnegan; and sister, Beverly France.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lowell; mother, Ruby; and stepfather, Stan Lathrop.
Visitation will be held Monday, January 27, 2025, from 11:00 A.M. until celebration of life service at 12:00 noon at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk with pastor Janet Ross officiating. Private interment will be held at a later date in Wakeman Cemetery.
