Carol J. Schafer

Carol J (Hess) Schafer, age 73, of Norwalk, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2024, at Fisher-Titus Medical Center.
She was born August 23, 1951, in New London to the late James T. and Doris J. (Knapp) Hess. She was a 1969 graduate of South Central High School and was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. She retired after 30 years at Food Town in Norwalk as a cashier and worked five years at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in dietary services. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, attending their school activities and sports, and especially enjoyed time spent with her siblings. She was her mother’s caretaker for many years, and enjoyed traveling, cruises, trips to Las Vegas, playing bingo and card games. For a number of years, she volunteered at Gaymont Nursing Center with their activities and bingo.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Richard Schafer; sons, Richard A. (Sheila) Schafer of Clear Water, FL, and Randall S. (Mandy) Schafer of Monroeville; grandchildren, Jamie, Brady, Aidan, Ian, Alec, Joshua, and Zachary; and great-granddaughter, Haisley; siblings, Sharon (Gary) Eastman of Norwalk, John Hess of North Fairfield, Cindy (Ron) Carey of Toledo, Jeff (Peggy) Hess of New London, and Lynda (Kim) Hess of Norwalk.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, James Hess, Patricia Montgomery, and Jerry “Bugs” Hess.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday, September 17, 2024, from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A private service will be held at a later date and interment in St. Paul Cemetery.
