William D. Chapin

William David Chapin, age 53, of Portland, Oregon passed away Thursday, July 25, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Bill was born January 23, 1971, in Celina, Ohio to Stanley and Dorothy (Toole) Chapin.  He grew up with his older siblings, Deborah Donnerberg, Stanley Chapin and Cyndy Beach on the farm. He graduated from Celina High School in 1989. Although he attended The Ohio State University, he was primarily self-taught, and worked his way up in the cybersecurity field, earning multiple certifications. In 2007 he moved to Washington D.C. and started working at NASA as a senior systems architect.

Bill enjoyed spending time with his children, rescuing animals, traveling across the country, scuba diving, the outdoors, following the Grateful Dead and Burning Man.

Bill met the love of his life, Heather (Eichacker) and they were married on September 23, 2006, and together they have their three bright, loving children, Augustine, Theodora, and Thomas Merritt.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church, 21 Firelands Blvd, Norwalk, OH. Burial will follow at Olena Cemetery.
