Gary L. Howard
June 18, 2024
Gary Layne Howard, age 67, of Norwalk, OH, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at his residence.
He was born April 16, 1957, in London, KY to the late Will and Ruby (Hammons) Howard. He loved his childhood there and enjoyed sharing stories of his time growing up.
Gary was a God fearing, Bible reading, honorable man. A born teacher, a storyteller, a self-made man mastering craftsmanship in woodworking and all things mechanical. Once figuring out the workings of his mother’s sewing machine he moved on to cars, boats, planes and trucks.
Gary loved people, family, friends and strangers. He loved all things God made and was fortunate enough to travel this country under the pretense of work and enjoy what lay before him. He served as tour guide to family and friends who were lucky to get him all to themselves for a short time. Stories from those adventures to be told and retold as they meant so much to him. To those who drove beside him, Carl, Dan, Don, he loved you like brothers. And brothers Joel and David, he loved you most.
He felt blessed by the gifts of Jimmy, Catie and Michael and could not have found better spouses for each. And the grand girlies, so many grand girlies.
He never met a Kiwi he didn’t like, never saw a picture of an otter that he didn’t share, never had a job more important than catching granddaughters off the school bus and never ended a call without saying he loved you.
If you were lucky enough to be loved by Gary, you knew it. And if you weren’t, he would have been praying on you.
He is survived by the love of his life of 31 years, Melissa Logsdon of Norwalk; children James (Kara) Howard, Catie (Shane) O’Neil and Michael (Catie) Logsdon; grandchildren, Marley, Ava, Kellyn, Mia and McKenna; siblings, Pauline Durbin, Sharon Crovetto, Linda Holt, Janice Sewell, David Howard, Joel Howard and Debbie Howard; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Bill Howard, nephew, Kevin Howard and cousin, Donnie Smallwood.
At Gary’s request cremation will take place with interment in the family cemetery in Kentucky.
