Virgil Wayne McCray was born on April 20, 1926 in Grainola, OK.
He grew up with 12 siblings, and spent much of his time alongside his father, working in mechanics.
In 1944, he was drafted for World War 2, joining the Navy to battle the invasion of Okinawa. He spent the next 30 years serving his country, including both the Korean and Vietnam war.
In 1960, Virgil married his wife, Clara Chronister. They raised their two children, Rhonda and Travis, in San Diego, CA. After Navy retirement, Clara and Virgil spent the next 10 years traveling the states to visit family and friends in their RV camper. These were some of Virgil’s most beloved memories, as he really enjoyed driving their RV and taking their grandkids places with them in it.
The later years of his life were lived out in Hunter, OK, Vacaville, CA and Norwalk, OH living with different family members. He enjoyed the outdoors, staying active, farming, fishing, but nothing brought him more joy than his family. He leaves behind 2 children, 8 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and many other family members who love and referred to him as Uncle Wayne, Grandpa, and Mac.
