Helen L. Moehlman

Helen L Moehlman, age 98, of Norwalk, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the 19th anniversary of her husband George’s passing on Thursday, February 22, 2024.

She was born December 4, 1925, to Ralph and Christine (Kromer) Keller. She was raised in a large, loving farm family in Castalia, where the family was raised in deep Catholic faith. She lived on the family farm until her marriage.  Helen graduated in 1944 from Margaretta High School. Her first job after graduation was at the Erie County Court House in the records department. She worked there for many years. She later became a secretary at New Departure-Hyatt in Sandusky. Helen worked for GTE as a telephone operator for 20 years after her children were grown.  Helen’s husband was also employed at New Departure-Hyatt, but they did not meet there. They met at the Downing Dance Hall at a square dance. George and Helen married on April 19, 1952. Together they built the family home in 1966 and raised four children there. Helen enjoyed making homemade meals and was known as an excellent baker. She made her pie crust only from scratch and was known for her apple and pecan pies, always having them ready for the holidays and special events. Helen made pies every year for the St. Alphonsus Church festival. For many years she helped stitch on the quilt that would be raffled off at the yearly festival, an event she looked forward to each year. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren in their many different activities. In later years, she would sit in her favorite chair with the radio tuned to listen to area high school sports. Helen was truly blessed, she was called Aunt Helen by 45 nieces and nephews and 95 great-nieces and great-nephews.

She is survived by her four children, Diane Richards of Albuquerque, NM, Kathleen (Bill) Rosby of Brooklyn Heights, OH, Karen (Mike) Chaffin of Collins, and David (Karen) Moehlman of Norwalk; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Natalie Richards, Madeline (Aaron) Smith and Jocelyn Richards, Cybil (Andrew) Cooper, and their daughters Lola and Ginger, Cecile (Chris) Walker, and their children Hanah, Liam, and Addison; Ian (Holly) Rosby and sons, William and Henry, Dr. Justin (Abigail) Chaffin and their children Rex and Lena, Troy (Jennifer) Chaffin and children Gabriella and Aubrey, Summer and Sydney Moehlman; and sister-in-law, Grace Keller of Sandusky.

In addition to her husband and parents passing, she was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers and their spouses, Margaret (Jerry) Zeiber, Joe (Alice) Keller, Ralph Keller, Rose Ann Manner, Mary (Brick) Bradford, Rita (Clarence) Wammes, Jim (Joyce) Keller, Ted (Rita) Keller; brother and sister-in-law, John (Betty) Moehlman and Mary (Dutch) Theisen; and Godson, Don Zeiber.

Visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday, February 25, 2024, from 2:00 – 5:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A funeral Mass will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, February 26, 2024, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 1322 Settlement Road, Norwalk, OH with Fr. Chris Jesudhason officiating. Burial will follow at parish cemetery.
