In the early 80’s when I was still too young to drive, Joe was my ride many cycling events. Growing up in Norwalk, Ohio we were 1/2 way between two club racing cities. Toledo on Thursdays and Cleveland on Sundays, we could carefully fit a Colnago and Paramount into the back of his late 70s Camaro. On those drives Joe introduced me to Zeppelin and Robert Plant as he tolerated my like for Ted Nugent.

After I left Norwalk we lost touch over the years. I could still stop in his bike shop when I was in town and we would talk about “the glory days”. Even though I have not seen him for a few years and knowing his outlook was not good, today’s news of Joe’s passing had really sat me back. He was a great friend to cycling as well as everyone he met.

As a teenager, I worked with cousin Joe at the bike shop. As an adult I enjoyed catching up with him briefly on visits home. He always had a positive outlook to whatever I was going through. You will be missed.
