Douglas A. Elmiger

Douglas Alan Elmiger, age 77, of Collins, passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at his residence.

He was born February 7, 1946, in Seaford, NY to the late Henry and Hazel (Carpenter) Elmiger.  He was a volunteer fireman on Long Island, NY and worked at TWA flight center at JFK Airport. He was an engineer and worked at Mattituck Inlet Marina and then Onset Bay Marina as a supervisor for many years. He enjoyed boating, the water, woodworking and making furniture.  He started his own business, Galilee Marine Service in Quincy, MA and later moved to Wakeman, OH in 1995, where he built his home on Chenango Road.  He also worked at Williams Detroit Diesel in Brunswick, where he retired and then moved to Collins, OH. He was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Norwalk and enjoyed helping at Camp Patmos, where he built a dock, worked on the water filtration system and its maintenance. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and especially his dog, Nathan.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Linda (Gagnon) Elmiger; children, Diana Solarte of St. Petersburg, FL; son, Douglas Elmiger of Westlake; and grandchildren, Alan Elmiger and Anthony Solarte; and sister, Joyce; and other family members, Michael (Jackie) Muschitz, Michelle (Rick) Dunfee, Dennis Muschitz, Daniel, Muschitz, and David Muschitz.

A celebration of life service will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 25, 2023, at Calvary Baptist Church, 250 Benedict Avenue, Norwalk.

Arrangements entrusted to the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk.  Memorial contributions may be sent to Calvary Baptist Church.
