David E. Williams

David E Williams, age 75, of Norwalk, passed away Thursday, August 24, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his family after a battle with leukemia.

David was born November 20, 1947 in Morenci, MI to the late Woodrow Williams and Alice (Doyler) Williams Heitche. He was a graduate of New London High School and served in the US Army.  He was a member of the Norwalk Eagles aerie 711.  He was a true family man, and his family always came first. He supported his three sons in all their activities and coached their Lefty Grove baseball teams.  He was very involved in their cub scouts and Boy Scout troop 208 in Norwalk and was an assistant and later their Scout Master. He never seemed to miss an event of any sorts with their school activities. He also supported his grandchildren when he was able, and he was proud of all of them. David was a hard-working man his whole life. He worked in his mom’s tarp shop at a young age in Olena. He worked at Poly One in Norwalk for 35 years, and then worked at Borgers in Norwalk. He could fix just about anything.  David loved working on restoring cars. Once he started working on Something he could not stop until it was complete. There is probably not a family member or friend who didn’t call him to look at something. He could look at the car and tell you the make, year, motor size, transmission, or anything else you needed to know.  He loved watching NASCAR, Jeff Gordon and Dale Ernhardt were among his favorite drivers and old western movies, especially John Wayne. He was always willing to help a family member or friend or neighbor with any project they were working on.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, and the love of his life, Shirley (Damron) Williams, to whom he married July 4, 1966. They started dating at 16 years old.  Children, Charles (Erin Gibbs) of Bowling Green, Jason Williams and Kevin Williams, both of Norwalk. Six grandchildren that he loved so much and who will miss him so, Kodi, Kayla, Kurtis, Danielle, Marissa and Josh; a great-granddaughter, Rowen Durham, and his dog, Laser.  Also a sister and brother-in-law, Audrey (Damron) Smith, David Smith and Steve Krisha of Wakeman; many nieces and nephews who will also miss him so much.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Rodney; sister-in-law, Betty (Nebergall) Williams, Lewis of West Virginia, Diane (Lariscy) Williams; and niece, Tristan Conaway; also mother and father-in-laws, Rose (Sturgill) Damron and Milford Damron; brother-in-law, Clayton Damron, Gail (Damron) Krisha, Kim (Smith) Royer and an infant granddaughter, Katilyn Williams.

David was such a big part of all the people who knew and loved him. He was a small man, but he sure had a big impact on all who knew and loved him.

A visitation will be held Monday, August 28, 2023, from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. in the funeral home.  A burial with military honors will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.

My condolences to to the Willaims family. Dave was my cub scout leader, he helped me get me a job at Polyone. Never heard anyone say a bad word about him. A special man, I'll never forget.
