Margaret Eileen Fritz

Abraham Lincoln once said, “All I am and all I hope to be, I owe to my mother.”  This is our sentiment about our beloved Mother.  She embodied humility, compassion, kindness, unconditional love and will be missed dearly.

Margaret Eileen Fritz, age 94, of Norwalk, peacefully went home to the Lord Friday evening, February 17, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born April 15,1928, in Norwalk to the late William and Irene (Eline) O’Donnell.  She was a graduate of St. Mary’s Elementary and Norwalk High School, class of 1946.  She married the love of her life, Jim Fritz, in 1953.  Together they raised their family in Norwalk. They owned and operated Fritz Hilltop Gulf and Jim’s Auto Wash.  She also reminisced about working at Battles Insurance and Woolworth. She was a life member of St. Mary Catholic Church where she found immense strength and solace from her Catholic faith.

Margaret cherished family time playing/winning bingo, playing cards and yahtzee (she would sprinkle her magic sugar on the kids dice) and going to Cedar Point. She loved  to get everyone singing and karaoke and had a beautiful voice to share.  She had an extreme love of Christmas and large family gatherings-always wanting everyone to be included. She enjoyed attending every activity she could for her children and grandchildren.  She was always their #1 fan and even called Grandma by entire teams. She was well known for her famous “Fritz Fudge.” She was an avid fan of Cleveland Sports; Cavaliers, Indians, Browns, and The Ohio State Buckeyes.

She was a former member of the Norwalk VFW Auxiliary, Daughters of Isabella, GGC Club and Norwalk Bronson Conservation Club. She enjoyed her birthday celebrations with family and vacationing in Las Vegas and on the beaches of Destin, Florida.

She is survived by her children:  Ray (Peggy) Fritz, Mary Anne Fritz, Katie (Howard) Gibson, Charles (Suzanne) Fritz, Teresa (Ken) Pepera, and Molly (Dale) Hooper, grandchildren, Joe (Raechal) Fritz, Bradley Fritz, Michael (Susan) Chappelear, Mark (Shauna) Chappelear, Sarah (Jeff) Reed, Andrea (Nate) Cooper, Hillary Fritz, Wesley (Olivia) Fritz, Nicole (Adam) Rubenstein, Jessie Pepera, and Kyle Pepera, great-grandchildren James, Jennifer, Justin, Chase and Nolan Chappelear, Liam and Cora Reed, Harpster, Crew and Sullivan Cooper, beautiful sister-in-law, Dorothy Bauer, many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband, Jim Fritz; son, James; granddaughter, Jennifer; siblings, Mary, Robert, Charles, Charlotte, and her twin sister, Catherine Sheehan.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, February 24, 2023, from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 38 W. League Street, Norwalk. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Mary Catholic Church, 38 W. League Street, Norwalk, OH 44857.
