Cathy Beier

Catherine “Cathy” Beier, age 80, of Norwalk, passed away Monday, February 13, 2023, at Norwalk Memorial Home.

She was born June 9, 1942, in Lorain, OH and graduated from St. Anthony Elementary and Lorain High School.  She was a longtime employee of Maple City Rubber and Norwalk K-Mart, where she was a cashier and known as personable and friendly with all of her customers.  She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s school activities and sporting events.  She was a second Mom to many and enjoyed planning and attending her family reunions for many years.  She was a 30-year member of the Norwalk Lions Club, enjoyed traveling, vacationing to Coatbridge, Scotland where her parents were born, Hawaii and attending the Mt. Olive Pickle Festival and Milan Melon Festival.

She is survived by her husband of 19 years, William Beier Sr; children, Sarah (Peter) Cianci of Brook Park, Diana (Robert) Slauterbeck of Norwalk, Tammy (Darren) Rice of Norwalk, William (Mary) Beier Jr. of Norwalk, and Timothy Jon (Jennifer) Beier of Norwalk; grandchildren, Ben (Michelle) Szymanel, Tony Szymanel, Scottie (Alex) Slauterbeck (with a great-granddaughter on the way), Emma Rice, Amy (Lupe) Sauseda, Sid Beier, Amelia Beier, Cami Beier, Gracie Beier; brother, Jim (Martha) McBennett of Sheffield Village; special nephew, Ralph (Brenda) Schroeder of Mt. Olive, NC and other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Sarah (O’Brien) McBennett; her first husband, Jay Whitt in 1991; grandchildren, Jordan Beier and Angel Szymanel; siblings, Mary Ann, Patrick, Johnny, and Charlotte.

Friends may call on Sunday, February 19, 2023, from 2:00 – 5:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A funeral Mass will be held Monday, February 20, 2023, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E. Main Street, Norwalk.  Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
