Joyce Gubesch

Joyce (Wass) Gubesch, age 89, of Norwalk, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2022, at her residence surrounded by her family.
She was born September 14, 1933, in Barker, NY and was a 1951 graduate of Barker Central School where she was involved in cheerleading, choir and drama. She attended Rochester Business Institute in Rochester, NY and worked with Niagara County Social Services. She married Michael Gubesch in 1960 and then raised her three daughters before moving to Norwalk, OH.
She was an active member of Norwalk First United Methodist Church and involved with United Methodist Women’s local and district as an officer. She enjoyed singing in the chancel choir and was in the Naomi Ruth Circle and volunteered in her church. She also wintered in Palmetto, Florida and attended the Palmetto First United Methodist Church and was active in the thrift shop, and choir. She was a member of the Shakespeare Club in Norwalk, attained over 7000 hours of volunteering at Fisher-Titus Medical Center and was a former FTMC auxiliary vice-president. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Gubesch of Norwalk; daughters, Julie Gubesch (Tom Santelle) Woods of Norwalk, Jill Gubesch of Chicago, and Janine (Alex) Leon of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Dr. Lauren Woods of Evanston, IL, Andrew (Caitlin) Woods of Livonia, MI and John (Anira) Woods of Elyria; and a great-grandson, Carson; a sister-in-law, Nancy Gubesch Smith of NY; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Delbert, and Doris (Rhodes) Wass; and a sister, Joan (Malcolm) Anderson.
Friends may call on Saturday, November 19, 2022, from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A funeral service will be held Sunday, November 20, 2022, at 1:00 P.M. at the Norwalk First United Methodist Church, 60 W. Main Street, Norwalk with Rev. Dr. Brian C. Oglesbee officiating. A luncheon will follow.
