Roberta "Bert" Gormley

Roberta J “Bert” Gormley, age 83, of Norwalk, passed away Monday evening, September 19, 2022, at Stein Hospice Care Center.

She was born June 12, 1939, in Lodi and grew up in West Salem. She was a 1957 graduate of Northwestern High School and Elyria School of Cosmetology. Early in life, Mom was a beautician and a homemaker. After her children were in high school Roberta worked as a merchandiser for American Greetings – perfect for the card lady.

Mom enjoyed hosting family and friends for Holiday dinners, especially loved decorating her house for every occasion. Mom was the best nurse to her family. She would sleep with her purse around her neck by Lisa’s bed in the hospital. Mom touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all. She was a devoted mother and put her energy towards her family and grandchildren. Mom enjoyed attending all of Cole’s sporting events and band performances. She loved playing with Lauren and watching her grow, and so very proud of Brandi in pursuing her dream to be a doctor.

She enjoyed traveling and loved her 6,ooo mile tour around the United States. She had great memories of dear friends and family down in her beautiful condo in Pompano Beach, FL. Mom loved her pelicans and the lighthouse just outside her window, watching boats to the intercoastal, and the Goodyear blimp over the ocean.

She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Jerry Gormley of Norwalk; daughters, Brenda Manning of Collins and Lisa (Ken) Davis of Milan; grandchildren, Dr. Brandi Manning, D.O., Cole Manning, Lauren Davis; and her loving sister, Margaret (Ron) King of Wooster; loving sister-in-law, Susan Giar; loving nieces, Tami (Brian) Spotts and Kim (Randy) Kisling; her dog, Chelsey.

She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, John Manning in 2016; parents, Robert and Beulah (Mowrey) Brubaker; aunt and uncle, Buss and Treva Fulton.

A celebration of life gathering will be held Saturday, September 24, 2022, from 11:00 – 1:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk, OH. A reception will immediately follow at the Norwalk Elks Lodge, 2949 US 250, Norwalk, OH. Private interment will be held at a later date.

Our family is grateful for the loving care that was shown to our mom by her amazing nurse, Jill, her caregivers, Helen and Emma, in her home. Special thanks to the staff of Fisher-Titus and Stein Hospice.

Thank you, mom, for helping us to become the individuals we are today. Thanks for being an extraordinary woman and mother you were. We will do our best to make you proud. We love you very much, and then some and more.

In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to your favorite charity.

Aunt Bert also had a keen wit. I recall being separated from Uncle Jerry and her while in Pampano Beach at an air show. I called to ask where they were so we could regroup. She replied, "We're at the corner of WALK and DONT WALK." She will be dearly missed
