Dareyl Smith

Dareyl G Smith, age 93, of Norwalk, passed away Thursday, September 15, 2022, at Norwalk Memorial Home.

He was born September 2, 1929, in Norwalk and notably was the first born at the former Memorial Hospital in Norwalk to the late W. Scott Smith and Marian R. (Backus) Smith. He was a 1947 graduate of Monroeville High School and a 1951 graduate of Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. He served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1951 until 1953, where he was a recipient of a purple heart. He first worked in Findlay at RCA from 1954 until 1958, then Norwalk Truck Line from 1958 until 1968, and retired from Whirlpool Corp in Clyde in 1992. He was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church for 62 years and enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his children, Steve (Janna) Smith of Whitewater, WI, Ron (Betsy) Smith of Greenville, OH, Jeanne (Ken) Leber of Norwalk and Scott (Tonda) Smith of Peru; brother-in-law, Carl (SuEllen) Schwobel and sister-in-law, Rosemary Mathews; 11 grandchildren, Brahm, Andrew, Alex, Leslie, Maggie, Stephanie, Matt, Kyle, Ben, Carl and Kathleen; 15 great-grandchildren; and his faithful dog, Willy.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his 1st wife, Marian (Schwobel) Smith; and his 2nd wife, Helen Eby; a brother, Richard S. Smith.

A graveside service will be held 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at Hester Cemetery, 913 Ridge Road, Norwalk with Pastor Ann Marshall officiating with military honors. Arrangements entrusted to the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Norwalk Memorial Home, St. Peter Lutheran Church or the Huron County Humane Society.
