Sandy Snyder

On Monday, August 15th, 2022, Sandra “Sandy” Snyder, loving wife, and mother of three children, passed away unexpectedly, weeks before her 79th birthday.

Sandy was born on September 3rd, 1943, in Norwalk, OH to Henry (Hank) and Wanda (Witter) Kaltenbach. Sandy grew up in Norwalk until moving to Fitchville and attended New London schools starting in the 7th grade, where she met the love of her life, Robert (Rob) Snyder. Rob and Sandy went steady all throughout high school and were married September 1st, 1962. Sandy attended BGSU before moving to Cincinnati in 1962 with Rob while he finished his degree at University of Cincinnati, where she worked at the Conservatory of Music. She was a devoted military wife, as she supported Rob as he performed his duties in the Navy for 26 years. This gave them the opportunity to live in several places, but the place she loved most of all was their home in Kentford, England. Rob and Sandy moved back to the States in 1972, eventually moving to New London in 1979, where they raised their three children. Sandy taught preschool out of their home from 1980-1985, and then began working at the New London Library in 1989 for 20 years, before retiring in 2009. Through her children, Sandy was involved with Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. She was an avid reader and scrapbooker and was a member of the Norwalk Red Hat Delights. Above all, she will be remembered as always thinking about others and being concerned for her close friends and family.

Left to cherish her memory is her devoted husband of nearly 60 years, children Erinn (John) Starcher, Steven (Becky) Snyder, and Dana (Mike) Fries, grandchildren Brandon Fries, Reagan Starcher, Brooke Fries, Collin Snyder, and Sophie Snyder, and siblings William (Natalie) Kaltenbach, Michael (Rebecca) Kaltenbach, and Daniel (Jenny) Kaltenbach; nieces and nephews.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Wanda, grandparents Roy and Katie Witter and Karl and Charlotte Kaltenbach, and her parents-in-law Norris and Martha Snyder.

A celebration of life gathering will be held 6:00 -8:00 PM on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at Evans Funeral Home at 314 E Main St, Norwalk, OH 44857.

In lieu of flowers, her family asks that donations be made in Sandy’s honor to the New London Historical Society at 13 E Main St, New London, OH 44851 or to Back to the Wild at 4504 Bardshar Rd, Castalia, OH 44824.

So sorry for your loss Rob. Sandy is one of my first memories out side my family. Do you remember Bill and I coming down to Pensacola while you were in flight training? I didn’t for sure! Sandy was a special lady. God bless her.

Sandy and I go way back to those preschool days. Long, late night talks, adopted kids, love to teach and learn! Love to scrapbook! We may not have kept in touch all the time but when we did get together we picked right up like we hadn’t missed a few years in between! My love to Rob, Erin, Steve and Dana.
