Ralph R. Sawyer

Ralph R Sawyer, age 86, of Norwalk, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at Firelands Regional Medical Center.

He was born October 8, 1935, in Redtown, OH to the late Ralph E. and Elsie M. (Smart) Sawyer. He was a 1954 graduate of Chauncy-Dover High School and worked on the family farm at D.M. Sawyer Milk and Dairy. He operated Fiscus Radio and TV Service in Athens and then served in the US Army from 1958 until 1962. He attended trade school for radio, televisions, and small engine repair. He worked at Sears and Ford Motor Co in his earlier years and retired after 25 years with General Motors in 1990. He was known as a master of all trades and enjoyed working with his hands, watching, and feeding his birds and cats, gardening and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of Peoples Baptist Church in Brunswick and Lighthouse Baptist Church in Seville and moved to Norwalk in 2005. He was active with King Midget Motors and could fix anything.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Helen (Kollar) Sawyer; children, Randall Sawyer of Norwalk, Rustin (Coleen) Sawyer of Brunswick, Robin (Allen) Davis of Huron and Ryan (April) Sawyer of Norwalk; 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and two on the way; siblings, Beverly (Tom) Shifflet of Glouster, OH and Paul (Lisa) Sawyer of Grove City, OH; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Dorothy, and Dale.

Friends may call on Friday, August 5, 2022, from 3:00 – 7:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 6, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. in the funeral home with Pastor Rich Foreman officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Norwalk Baptist Church or the Wounded Warriors.
