Oren "Red" Pigman Jr.

Oren “Red” Pigman Jr., age 95 of Norwalk, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2022 at Gaymont Nursing Center.

Oren, was born November 11, 1926 in Elyria, OH to the late Loretta (Blinzley) and Oren Pigman Sr.

Oren attended Norwalk High School when he enlisted early in the U.S. Navy. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Training Center November 9th, 1944. During WWII he served on 3 LST’s, an LSD and a Carrier. He was a lifelong member of the Norwalk VFW Post 2743.

After his service he started and ended his working career with the Sandusky Ford plant.

He married Reta Stevanus on December 6th, 1957 in Florida. They lived in Elyria then built a home in Milan with the help of Oren’s family and in 1974, purchased the Royal Motel in Norwalk, and managed it together until 1985.

In his earlier years he enjoyed co-owning and piloting small aircraft which he would fly from Norwalk to Florida.

In retirement, he enjoyed watching Cleveland Indians baseball on TV, spending time on his porch in the warmth of the sun (please use sunscreen), and watching his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren grow.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Reta E. (Stevanus) Pigman in 2020; brothers, Jack Pigman and Gary Pigman; and sisters, Shirley Vaughan & Barbara Ward.

He is survived by his son Mark S. Pigman (Ruth) of Norwalk; stepson, Gordon D. (Nancy) Chipukites; stepdaughter, Connie J. (Edward) Lewis; grandchildren, Benjamin (Kim) Pigman, Derek (Lindsay) Pigman, Tyler (Alysia) Pigman; step-grandchildren, Jennifer (Dr. Kenneth) Koblan, Ken Lewis, Tim Lewis, Kelly (Heath) Critchett; great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Pigman, Natalie Pigman, Braydon Dove, Dylan Pigman, Anna Pigman, Gianna Pigman; step-great-grandchildren, Chase Benson and Rachel Benson, Katie Critchett and Riley Critchett; brothers, Donald (Debbie) Pigman of Florida, and Patrick (Millie) Pigman of Florida; sister-in-law Dr. Bonnie Pigman; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Oren’s neighbors, Norwalk City Ambulance, Fisher Titus, Gaymont Nursing Home, Stein Hospice Services, and Norwalk VFW 2743 and the Woman’s Auxiliary.

Visitation will be held Sunday, March 6, 2022 from 3:00 – 5:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 7, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be sent to DAV Chapter 62, 406 West Main St., Norwalk, OH 44857 and Huron County Area Veterans Council.

Mask wearing is preferred.
