Gerald D “Jerry” Lykins, age 85, of Collins, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his family.

He was born February 27, 1936 in New Haven, OH to the late Walter and Roxie (Crager) Lykins. He was a diesel mechanic at Wikel Express for many years, worked at Action Auto, retired as body shop manager at Don Tester Ford, Norwalk and was the manager of the Gulf Inn for several years. He was a self-taught guitarist after his mother showed him five chords to play. His love of country music was in his soul and enjoyed playing with his friends and bandmate, Carl Smith at wineries, weddings, and family events. He called at square dances, played cards, enjoyed a round of golf in the summertime, and member of the Norwalk bowling leagues. He was a simple man, greeting everyone with a big smile, known as a great host and took pride in mowing his lawn. He tinkered on small engines and volunteered at the Townsend Township Fish Frys. He was a good friend to many and volunteered driving them to doctor and hospital appointments. He was a member of the Vermilion VFW and Eagles Aerie 711 in Norwalk.

He is survived by his lifetime partner, Margaret “Skeeter” Dauch of Collins; uncle, Edgar Crager of South Point, OH; sister, Phyllis (the late Homer) Sands of Willard; his niece, Jill Chaffins and other nieces and nephews. He was influential to Skeeter’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and will be missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Eldon Lykins and Janice Hartman; and daughter, Susan Tesmer.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
