Helen Bauer

Helen Janette (Dolan) Bauer, age 96, of Norwalk, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at Norwalk Memorial Home.
Born May 31, 1925 in Brooklyn, NY , Helen was a 1943 graduate of Washington Irving High School in Manhattan, NY and a 1945 graduate of Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY earning her license as a NY State Dietitian.
Helen is predeceased by her husband, Herbert Bauer, her parents Elsie and John Dolan, and brother Seth Dolan. Helen is survived by her loving family, daughters, Lynne (John) Horrigan and Janet (Edward) Tomaszewski; grandchildren, Michelle (Kyle) Marks, Wendy (Christopher) Wilging, Daniel (Emily) Swick, William (Alexa) Tomaszewski and Kathryn (Joshua) Wenger; nine great-grandchildren, Ryan and Olivia Marks, Elanor, Samantha and Penelope Wilging, Alexis, Carsyn and Carter Swick and Matthew Tomaszewski.
Helen devoted her life to serving others. She began her volunteer activities in Roseland, NJ as a Sunday School teacher, a girl scout leader and in the public library. After a move to Ohio Helen continued her volunteer activities at the Milan Methodist Church, the First Congregational and Methodist churches of Berlin Heights and the First United Methodist Church of Norwalk. Helen volunteered at the Milan Public Library and at Milan Elementary School library. In later years Helen tutored children through the Age Exchange, Norwalk and worked at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in volunteer services.
Helen was a devoted Christian and lifelong member of the Methodist Church. She loved her dogs, especially her dachshund’s Trudy and Harvey. Helen was known to her family as “Suggie” and the “Cookie Lady”. She always had cookies and a full lollypop jar for her grandchildren.
A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Norwalk. Memorial contributions can be made to First United Methodist Church, 60 W. Main Street, Norwalk, OH 44857.
