Carolyn,
I'm very sorry to hear about the passing of your dad, Dean. I knew him and your mom pretty well when we were kids and always thought he was a pretty good guy. He had always treated me well. My dad grew up with him and had told me some interesting stories through the years about things that they did when they were kids too.
I hope your pleasant memories of times spent with him, combined with the knowledge he is now in a better place, will help assuage your grief over his loss.
