Jack A. Harpst

Jack A Harpst, passed away peacefully December 26, 2020 with his loving wife at his side. Jack was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He was a gentleman and had a kind word and smile for everyone.
Jack was born July 20, 1936 in Sandusky to the late LeRoy and Cleo (Schnell) Harpst. Jack and Carol would have celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary on December 30, 2020. Jack graduated from Sandusky High School, where he excelled in sports, lettering in football, basketball and baseball. He attended Mount Union College in Alliance and continued his education and football career. Jack was a member of the Alpha Ta Omega fraternity. He retired from a long career in banking and sales.
He played golf, bowling and softball in his early years. Later enjoyed reading, antiquing, gardening, attending live plays and wintering in Florida with his wife. Most of all, Jack was the Patriarch of summer parties at their cottage in Huron
Jack and Carol attended St. Anthony Catholic Church in Milan. He was a former member of the Elks Lodge #285 in Sandusky and a life member of Eagles Aerie #711 in Norwalk. Jack was a former volunteer at Providence Hospital and Fisher-Titus Medical Center.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Carol (Perry) Harpst; children, Susan (Gary) Lewis of Huron, William Harpst and Laura (Larry) Merrick, both of Sandusky, Julie Malloy and David (Stephanie) Harpst, both of Florida, and Jacqueline (Mark) Sindlinger of Norwalk ; and special grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Donna Ahner; and a son, Daniel.
Friends may call on Thursday, December 31, 2020 from 1:30 until time of prayer service at 3:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk with Fr. Francis officiating. The use of facemask is required and social distancing will be observed. If preferred, you may express your condolences online at norwalkfuneral.com or call the funeral home to request that your name be signed in the gust registry. A celebration of Jack’s life will be held at a later date with a Christian Mass at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Milan. Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Anthony’s Church or Huron County Humane Society. The family would like to thank the staff of dedicated nurses who took good care of Jack throughout his declining health.
