David L. Russell

David Lee Russell, age 87, of Norwalk, passed away Monday evening November 23, 2020, at Gaymont Nursing Center.

He was born February 12, 1933, in Wapakoneta, Ohio to the late Fred and Marjorie (Jacobs) Russell. He was a 1951 graduate of Mansfield Senior High and attended Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana. He served in the US Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict from 1953 until 1955. He was employed as the Division Manager at Sears in Mansfield for many years and retired in 1998 as the Safety Service Director for the City of Mansfield.

He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and served on the Cemetery Board. He enjoyed traveling and serving on community civic groups, spending time with his grandchildren, and morning coffee at Sheri’s Coffee House in Norwalk. He was active with the Norwalk VFW Post 2743, Norwalk Area United Fund, and the City of Norwalk’s Architectural Review Board.

He is survived by his children, Wendy (Howard) Wilde of Norwalk, Sara (Tim) Fitzgerald of Norwalk, and Mike (Peggy) Russell of Dublin; his grandchildren, Ashley (Austin) Taylor, Caity (Nik) Fortson, Lindsey (Brandon) Gessner, Shelby (Jay)Wolf, Allie (Beau) Beechler, and Abby Fitzgerald; great-grandchildren, Kalli, Malik, Matthew, Beckett, Liam, and Piper; and a sister, Eleanor DeBaltzo of Mansfield.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi (Moser) Russell of Norwalk, to whom he married on September 8, 1956.

Friends may call Friday, November 27, 2020, from 3:00 to 6:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A private funeral service will be held. Interment with military graveside honors at St. Paul Cemetery will be held Saturday, November 28, 2020, at noon.

I am so sorry for your loss. I would see Mr. Russell by the front door at Gaymont when I went to visit my mother there, he always smiled and said Hi!
