Helen Prater

Helen E Prater, 90, of Norwalk Ohio, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 after extended illness.
She was born August 17, 1930 in Drift, Kentucky to Grover Cleveland Addis and Nellie Mae (Green) Addis. She married her husband, Johnie Prater Sr., in Floyd County, Kentucky on January 31, 1946. They moved to MI in 1966, where her boys started their own families. In 1976, they moved to Norwalk to spend time with their already relocated family. She was a member of the Cline Street Freewill Baptist Church.
She was a housewife with a dedication to her entire extended family that is not often seen today, nor in the past. She helped raise three generations of children and always had a loving and kind demeanor for everyone. Anyone invited into her house would always be fed if they were hungry and feel loved as if they were her own family. She spent what little free time she had between crocheting, gardening, trying out new recipes and foods, collecting things that made her happy, and living a Christian life.
She survived cancer twice, several heart attacks, and a stroke, before seeing all of her children pass. She had made her peace with this world when she was finally called home to God.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Maxine Eden, G.C. Addis Jr., and James Addis; her husband, and her three children, Johnie Jr., James E., and Sallie Lee.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Charlene R. Prater; grandchildren, James (Xu Tao) Prater, Annette (Oron) Wilcox, Lisa (Dan) Marks, Melissa (Kerry) Pauley, Mary (James) Jenkins, David (Farah) Ray, Joseph (Evie) Gonzalez, Tiffany Lugtig, Sarah (Tyson) Hill, and Dorothy Austin; many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends. She is loved by and will be missed by all.
Visitation will be held at Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk on Monday, October 12, 2020 from 4:00 to 6:00pm.
Memorial donations should be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the American Heart Association or the Cline Street Freewill Baptist Church.
