William J Markel Sr.

William John Markel Sr, age 72, of Milan, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at his residence.

He was born October 11, 1947 in Norwalk to the late William and Dorothy (Focht) Markel. He attended Norwalk High School and served in the US Army’s 9th Infantry Division during the Vietnam Conflict. He served as a Police Officer in Milan in the 1970’s and retired after many years working at Mayflower in Norwalk. He was a member of the Norwalk VFW Post 2743 and was a life member of the Vietnam Vet’s Motorcycle Club.

He is survived by his son, William Markel II and his fiancé Angela; daughter, Krista Markel of Milan; and grandchildren, Joseph Markel and Heather (Austin) Hunt; siblings, Delores Neeley of Norwalk and Bonnie (Russell) Schaffer of Willard; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen S. Markel in 2017.

Friends may call on Monday, March 16, 2020 from 11:00 A.M. until time of service at 1:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk with Pastor Roy Harless officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at Woodlawn Cemetery.
