John D. Gens

John D Gens, age 82, of Norwalk, passed away Saturday evening, December 7, 2019 after a brief illness at Fisher-Titus Medical Center.

He was born November 27, 1937 in Elyria to the late George F. and Mabel (Strele) Gens. He was a 1955 graduate of Monroeville High School and served in the US Army from 1958 until 1960. He attended a college in Cleveland for Physicians Assistant, and retired after 28 years as a Physician’s Assistant for the VA Medical Center in Syracuse, New York. He returned to Norwalk in 2002 and was a member of the Norwalk Eagles Aerie 711. He enjoyed wood carving, bird watching, walking in the outdoors and especially enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter and family.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Deanna S. (Scott) Gens of Norwalk; son, John S. (Suzanne) Gens of Martinsville, IN; granddaughter, Megan Gens; and a brother, George F. Gens Jr. of Norwalk.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Joyce and Mary Ellen.

A Celebration of his life will be held Saturday, December 28, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk with military honors. Interment will follow at Steuben Cemetery in Greenfield Township.
