David Hutchins

David Hutchins, age 68, of Norwalk, Ohio, passed away at home on March 29, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones.

David was a Millwright with CertainTeed where he dedicated many years of hard work and skill to his trade. Outside of work, he was a lifelong fan of racing and proudly served as a pit crew member at Sandusky Speedway where he raced Supermodifieds.  A motorcyclist since he was a teenager, he picked up cycling towards the end of his life.  You likely saw him on the North Coast Inland Trail these last few years, considering he rode more than 2,500 miles last year alone.

He was a devoted fan of rock music and a longtime amateur radio operator, known by his call sign KE8M, through which he connected with others worldwide.  He shared his enthusiasm for technology with everybody, and was always willing to answer your questions.  He proudly won many amateur radio competitions, and worried his family greatly by renting cranes and installing radio towers in his back yard.  Among his many accomplishments, he was a recipient of notable awards in AARL Amateur Radio.

David was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Hutchins and his former wife, Debbie Ryan.

He is survived by his children, Jerry (Jennifer) Ryan and Alisha (Benjamin)Waldron; his beloved grandchildren, Caleb, Calla, and Connor Ryan; his mother, Carole Hutchins; his brothers, Dan and Mike Hutchins; his sister, Deborah Weaver; and his niece, Jessica and Silas Taylor.

David will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his passion for the things he loved, and the care he had for his family. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A service will be held Friday, April 3, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. with Father Anthony Recker officiating, followed by Visitation until 1:00 P.M. at Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main St, Norwalk. Private interment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in David’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
