Mary Ann was a great teacher of how to love a spouse, how to love a family, and how to love those we care most about. Whatever I have gotten right in those departments certainly owes a great deal to Mary Ann, and of course Gene. My earliest memories include visiting the Rospert family, marveling at the grandfather clock, and being marvelled at as a wonderful young person whom Mary Ann and Gene had the greatest love and the highest hopes for.

I lived abroad for thirteen years in several different countries, and no matter where in the world I was, Mary Ann and Gene would call me on my birthday and at the holidays to catch up and share love and family news.

Just before the pandemic, my mother, Eileen, and I drove from Chicago to Ohio to visit Mary Ann and Gene and had a grand time. We stayed overnight at a nearby hotel so we could enjoy two days of their delightful company. We enjoyed reliving shared memories and hearing about how both families were thriving in myriad amazing ways.

It was my and my wife’s honor to be amongst the first in-person visitors to Mary Ann and Gene as the pandemic eased. We enjoyed a great steak, then we enjoyed finding Gene, who had trucked off in the huge parking lot and made friends with a new family.

Gene was my Godfather, and I still read these days in the beautiful bible he gifted me at my First Communion. Mary Ann and Gene’s faith has always and will always be an inspiration to me and my family, as it is no doubt to all those who knew them well.

My whole family is deeply blessed by having Mary Ann, Gene, and the Rosperts as loved ones throughout our lives. I will cherish Mary Ann and Gene’s memories by practicing kindness and respect for humanity with my utmost effort. Our love and warmest wishes to all the Rospert family and everyone who cherished Mary Ann and Gene. May their memory be always a radiant blessing.
