Edwin Englert
December 28, 2020
Edwin Eugene Englert, 78 of Norwalk, went home to be with his Lord on December 28, 2020, after a brief illness. Born on November 19, 1942, in Norwalk, Ohio to Joseph and Viola (Linder) Englert, Ed was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church and graduated from St. Paul High School. He later joined the National Guard and in 1973, married Mary Lou Meggitt. He worked for the 7-UP Bottling Company for 34 years and after retirement worked as a courier at Fisher Titus Medical Center for 17 years and was a driver for Woodard Photographic for eleven years.
Ed had a deep devotion and love for his family, especially his seven grandchildren, often attending their sporting events and activities. Ed loved the outdoors and feeding his birds in the backyard. Ed enjoyed cruising in his 1957 Chevy Bel Air with Mary Lou and were former members of the Car Coddlers and Remembering Cruisin’ car clubs where they formed many great friendships over the years. Ed loved to play cards with his best friend Denny (Pat) Weisenberger and loved to play the game “31”. He was a hard worker and a man of great faith. Ed enjoyed his hour each week in the Adoration Chapel, spending time with Jesus. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a great charmer! Anytime you would ask Ed how he was doing, he would tell you “ornery as ever!” and would give you a thumbs up. He knew no enemies and became a friend to everyone he met.
He is survived by his wife Mary Lou of 47 years, their two children Jennifer (Bryan) Yeckley of Bellevue, Kevin (Melissa) Englert of Norwalk, two brothers Robert (Deb) Englert, James (Peggy) Englert of Milan, sisters Joyce (Wayne) Moore of Mechanicsburg, and Donna Smith of Norwalk. His seven grandchildren, Derek Yeckley of Lakewood, Dana (Hunter) Hahn of Fremont, Tait Yeckley of Kent, Kaden, Olivia, Sydney, and Ava Englert of Norwalk, and numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father.
A Catholic Mass will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2021, at 1:00 pm at St. Paul’s Church. Interment will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery. Due to current restrictions and concerns for large gatherings, there will be no visitation or luncheon. There will be an online broadcast of the funeral at www.stpaulchurch.org. A celebration of life will be held at a later date in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for memorial contributions to Stein Hospice Care Center, 1912 Hayes Avenue, Sandusky, or Norwalk Catholic School, 93 E. Main Street, Norwalk.
