Letha Heltzel

Letha E (Harper) Heltzel, age 85, of Milan, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Norwalk memorial Home.

She was born March 23, 1936 in Green Bank, WV to the late Virgil and Cleo (Cassell) Harper. She was a 1955 graduate of Green Bank High School, lived in Akron for many years and moved to Norwalk in 1962. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Norwalk. She was a former member and past Matron of the Edison Eastern Star Chapter 112, past President of E.C.H.O. Shrine Club and member of L.O.S.N.A. Dendarah Court No. 10, Toledo, Milan and Maple City Garden Clubs, Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughter of the Confederacy, Lady Shriner and its Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America, Toledo. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

For many years she was known to make the Christmas wreath for the Thomas Edison Birthplace house. The wreath was made out of natural materials which would have been used during the period the Edison family lived in Milan and correspond with the holiday decorations displayed by the museum complexes on Edison Drive.

She is survived by her husband to whom she married January 14, 1956, Warden Heltzel of Milan; children, Debra Lynn Heltzel Flagstaff, AZ and David Scott (Lisa) Heltzel of Monroeville; and two grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Monday, August 30, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. Burial will follow at Milan Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital Burn Center.
