Raymond L. Lucal

Raymond L Lucal, age 63, of Norwalk, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky.

Son of his late parents, Henry “Hank” and Mary (Martin) Lucal, Raymond was born August 20, 1956 in Sandusky. He was a 1974 graduate of Western Reserve High School, where his class recently celebrated their 45th class reunion on September 21, 2019. Ray attended and had a great time seeing old friends. He was employed at Norwalk K-Mart, Stanley Steamer Carpet Cleaners of Bellevue and Troy, MI and worked 24 years at Norwalk Furniture Corp on the K-D Line. At NFC, Ray was on the safety team as a first responder. His most beloved and dedicated job was caregiver for his sons, Matthew and Nathan, as both were diagnosed at a young age with muscular dystrophy.

Ray was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and served as an adult volunteer with both son’s scouting activities. He was a member of the Norwalk Eagles Aerie 711 and St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer after being confirmed in April 2004 with his son, Matthew as his sponsor. Ray volunteered with Habitat for Humanity building houses and was a Red Cross blood donor. He had a sweet tooth for candy, especially Kit-Kats, Hershey Kisses and Hershey bars. He enjoyed coaching T-ball with the Norwalk Park and Rec, played softball and volleyball on the Norwalk Park and Rec teams, and volunteered for numerous fund raising activities and charity events for MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association). He especially enjoyed family vacations at Walt Disney World, Wisconsin Dells and Hershey, PA.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Deborah J. (Smith) Lucal; son, Nathan at home; sister, Anna (Richard) Weisenberger of Norwalk; brothers, David (Valerie) Lucal of Norwalk, Donald Lucal of Willard and twin brother, Richard (Donna) Lucal of West Chester; and nephews, nieces, brother-in-law, David (Cindy) Smith of Norwalk; and beloved rescue dog, Hershey. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Matthew Lucal on November 12, 2015.

A rosary will be recited Friday, November 15, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk with visitation from 3:00 – 7:00 P.M. A funeral Mass will be Saturday at 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, 38 W. League Street, Norwalk with Rev. Francis Mardias, Deacons Mike Wasiniak and Dave Rospert concelebrating. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Norwalk.
