Dorothy Pondy

Dorothy Marie Pondy, 87, of Elyria, passed away quietly at the Gaymont Rehabilitation Center in Norwalk on Saturday, December 15, 2018 surrounded by her children. She was born in Elyria and lived in Lorain County all her life.

She attended and graduated from Lorain High School in 1949. She was a devout Catholic, attending Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and later Our Lady Queen of Peace in Grafton.

Early in Dorothy's career she worked at A&P Grocery stores, Fruehauf Trailer Company and was a Kelly Girl. After moving to Grafton, she served as an Administrative Assistant on the fifth floor of Elyria Memorial Hospital for many years. She was also active in the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 1079 in Elyria. She enjoyed family, canning, sewing, cooking, floral arrangements, volunteering and most of all she loved to be with and take care of others.

She is survived by her three children, Jay (Tina) Pondy of Appling, Georgia, Dory Crossfield of Elyria and Jackie (Jeff Peterson) Pondy of Indianapolis, Indiana, as well as a granddaughter, Jessica Crossfield of Houston, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Julius S. Pondy; sisters, Virginia Zernikow of Amherst and Paula Plott of Elyria and her parents, John and Pauline Palka of Lorain.

There will be a memorial gathering in North Carolina this coming summer to celebrate her life and love.
