James R. Ground

James R Ground, age 84, of Norwalk, passed away Friday, February 23, 2018 at his residence.

He was born November 24, 1933 in Jackson Center, Ohio to the late Rev. Ralph and Bertha (Hecht) Ground. He was a 1951 graduate of Monroeville High School and a 1957 graduate of Capital University where he obtained a Bachelor’s of Science in Education. He worked in the Sandusky school system and retired after 31 years as an Insurance Agent for the Lutheran Brotherhood Insurance Co. He enjoyed spending time with his family and raising Haflinger horses and Welsh ponies.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Carolyn A. (Wahl) Ground of Norwalk; children, Kim (Jamie) Ground, Michael (Dawn Martinez) Ground, Elizabeth (Henry Klein) Spears and Jackie (Christopher) Taylor; grandchildren, Ashley Spears Smith, Danielle Spears, Will (Allie) Spears, Gina Hiser, Carlie (Brad) Andres, Cristina (Ethan) Unzicker, Bethany (Richard) Ott, Brittany (Chris) Poole and Cameron Ground; great-grandchildren, Cole Smith, Carsyn Smith, Lucy Hiser, Lillie Hiser, Galilee Andres, Anchor Andres, Arie Andres, Abraham Unzicker, Ethan “Bear” Unzicker Jr, Norah Unzicker and D.D., James Ott, Everly Ott, Easton Poole, Georgia Spears and Jack Spears.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, James Cameron Ground in 2004; grandchildren, Cassondra Ground and Jacob Christopher Poole, in infancy and Hosonna Jael Unzicker, in infancy.

Friends may call on Thursday from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A funeral service will be held Friday at 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home with Pastor Brad Andres officiating. Burial will follow at Edwards Grove Cemetery in Greenwich.
